The only way I can get the rotary controller to work is by executing

sudo killall -9 carpc-controller

sudo carpc-controller /home/pi/carpc-controller-master

I'm using this for in my car... and won't be able to run those two commands each time.. Is there something I might be doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using a Rpi 2?

If so I couldn't get it to work until I went into the sudo raspi-config go to advanced options and enable device tree.

Kodi then recognized the controller but my encoders still don't work.

Hope that gets you going on the controller.
