hello,

I first installed raspbian, updated it and installed the touchscreen drivers and the other requirement needed to get it working. When the touchscreen was working and calibrated i installed Carpc. after that the touchscreen didn't work anymore and couldn't get it to work. does anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it :?:

these are the parts i used:

RPI2
5'' 800*480 waveshare touchscreen.
64gb sandisk extreme micro sd card
and the other basic requirements.

thanks in advance

edit:

when i tried to use the calibration add-on i followed the instructions and at the end i did get the message that i should reverse the usb connection between the RPI and the touchscreen. that is impossible bud above all doesn't make any sence since it did work before witht the same setup af few moments before.

Do you have the latest carpc installed? carpc20150329.zip

If you do then the carbon skin is installed. change to it and let me know if your touch is almost perfect.
Like in the X gui.

I believe I have found the problem.

In the /home/pi directory there is the file: touchscreen_calibration_log

1280x720
Touch screen calibration plugin
Predefined points:
25,25
1255,25
1255,695
25,695

Obtained points:
200,357
3891,352
3870,3732
227,3725

case=1
calib_x_d=41;calib_x_fact=0.333243023571;calib_y_d=46;calib_y_fact=0.19893111639;swap_axes=0;click_confines=8;touch_mouse=1

I believe that the resolution is set for 1280 x 720 and we need it set for 800 x 480.

Does anyone know what file the resolution is in?

It's in /boot/config.txt

Add/modify this text:

# uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output
hdmi_force_hotplug=1

# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (here we are forcing 800x480!)
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=1
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0

start_file=start_x.elf
fixup_file=fixup_x.elf
gpu_mem=128

Reboot the system

It's not in this file.

/boot/config.txt is for X. Kodi doesn't use X11.

lordfrank are you still trying to get htis to work?

I have part of the solution.

The resolution is set to 1280 x 720. You neet to modify the plugin for kodi go to
.kodi/addons/plugin.program.touchCalibration
sudo nano addon.py

Look for
self.w = 1280
self.h = 720

replace that with
self.w = 800
self.h = 480

Reboot and that will take care of the pointer going off screen.
Still haven't figured out the pointer being off to the right of the stylus. i have edited the
touchscreen_axes_calib file and am blue in the face. no matter what I do it still off.

But I hope this helps some.

You're right – and wrong.

First: You're right that Kodi doesn't use X11. I copied the text from a tutorial and just forgot to delete this two lines:
Code:
start_file=start_x.elf
fixup_file=fixup_x.elf

which may have mislead you to think that this whole thing is for X11 only. Sorry, my fault!

Second: You're wrong. This is Raspbian and Raspbian reads the config.txt on startup. Shouldn't it be a good idea to tell the system the screen resolution and some other important stuff (hdmi-mode, framerate, …) on startup? What do you think? (You can read this if you want to know more about the config.txt)

Especially the 'hdmi_cvt' is important to get the screen working the right way (but has nothing to do with the touch-calibration). This is what it tells to the system in detail:

hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0
width: width in pixels (=800)
height: height in pixels (=480)
framerate: framerate in Hz (=60)
aspect: aspect ratio 1=4:3, 2=14:9, 3=16:9, 4=5:4, 5=16:10, 6=15:9 (=15:9)
margins: 0=margins disabled, 1=margins enabled (=no margins)
interlace: 0=progressive, 1=interlaced (=progressive/no interlace)
rb: 0=normal, 1=reduced blanking (=normal)

If your pointer is accurate in the upper left corner and goes off when moving towards the lower right corner, you have to adjust the values for 'calib_x_fact' and 'calib_y_fact' in the 'touchscreen_axes_calib' file.

ok,

so i got the touchscreen dialed in accurate enough that i can now use it properly for the CarPc sodtware. even the tiny close button when opening favorites can be done with relative ease now. since the screen is inductive instead of capacitive operating with the finger is a little different. i need to use my nail since it doesn't detect the fingertip very well. bud that i did now when i bought this screen.

this are the settings in the touchscreen_axis_calib that worked for me:

calib_x_d=-55;calib_x_fact=0.217230215827;calib_y_d=-40;calib_y_fact=0.135339483395;swap_axes=0;click_confines=8;touch_mouse=1

the values differ a lot from the values of the calibration add-on. bud it was a good place to start from.

i hope this will help some other people with the same/different screen.
also anohter topic i started contains valueable information regardings touchscreens.
http://engineeringdiy.freeforums.org/kodi-doesnt-boot-after-installation-carpc-on-rpi2-t467.html

thanks for all the help, if you need help feel free to contact me and i might be able to help.
now it is time to mess around some more with kodi itself ( after i made a backup of course ;) )
