you need to differ CAN-Bus from OBDII. You can't use OBDII for controls like steering-wheel-controls etc...

All buttons from steering wheel control send command to can-bus. So why cant we use OBDII bluetooh to use steering wheel control for xmbc?

Im not a coder, this is only problem

Hi,

with some minor adjustments I got the xbmc plugin running. It is based on the "pyobd-pi" mentioned in the first post.
So far it runs without any problems

I will upload the modified plugin later today or on the weekend.

To install you need to do following

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python-serial
sudo apt-get install bluetooth bluez-utils blueman
sudo apt-get install python-wxgtk2.8 python-wxtools wx2.8-i18n libwxgtk2.8-dev
sudo reboot

After successfull installation you need to open the blueman-manager connect & trust your OBD device.
As next step you need to connect to the device (Device - SPP)
=> A message like "device connected to /dev/rfcomm0" will appear. We remember this.....

Should be also possible to auto-connect the device - I will have a look on this next week.

Now we run KODI and intall the plugin.
In the configuration we use as "Port" the device name we got from the step above (usually /dev/rfcomm0).
Baud rate should be 9600.

Now you run the Plugin... Have phun and drive save! :-)

I plan to add some features to the plugin
Code:
- Better visualisation (size and shape)
- Settings: customizable background image
- Settings: user selection of data fields
- Data logging
- Upgrade to "new" obdpy version (2014 instead of 2012)

Hi again,

Never worked with git. Maybe I give it a chance - lets see. For the moment you can find the updated plugin attached.
I did recognise that the original writer of this plugin used some tv-guide plugin as base for his development.
Tried to clean up the code as much as possible and remove this old unneccesary code/references. Still not done but I think quite OK for now.

At the moment the plugin looks like this:
Image

You can change the background by exchanging script.carDiagnostic\resources\skins\Default\media\background-default.jpg.

Some known issues:

o Engine runtime shows only ATA (I guess it should be "no dATA" but is somehow truncated)
o Main air flow (MAF) is shown in hex
o Engine load has too many digits after the decimal
o Clear DCT button to big

I will work on this next week.

Have fun.
