We all know that the analog headphone out on the Pi is not the greatest for audio quality. However there is quite a lot of noise on the line (typical white noise). Has anyone else encountered this problem? What have you done to minimize this noise.

lol, I'm having hard time with this as well. I think I'll first try to buy a better power source for RPi, if it doesnt work, I'll but external USB soundcard haha

If your getting a whine whilst the engine is running then it will be down to a bad ground. Make sure you have either a direct ground to the battery or to the chassis.

I had alternator whine. Yes it is a poor ground. To get around this I ran a separate ground wire directly from the batteries (-) terminal to my head unit location and used that instead. This solved many issues.

I have noise (very loud) when I am in kodi, but I noticed that there is no noise (you can here some noise when you put your ear on speaker) when I exited from kodi to raspberry ui (I think raspbian :P ).

EDIT: It seems that we have noise only when "audio" is enabled...

No noise with hdmi cable
Small noise with hdmi to vga (+ audio) cable
Much noise with 3.5mm jack

Command in /boot/config.txt disable_audio_dither=1 doesn't help

I wonder if anyone has a setup without noise?
I have a cheap usb soundcard and it generates an awful lot of noise.
right now I have sound plugged into the pi and a ground loop isolator in between , thats the best I can do without buying another soundcard.
So if we can post tested and working setups , this includes raspbian versions etc.

It's also possible to use a HDMI Audio Extractor. HDMI output from the Pi is noiseless!
