@thecableguy. . Im pretty much in the same boat as you. I have the GlobalSat BU-353-S4 USB GPS and have gotten it to work with Navit original that comes with the carpc image, as well as compiling from source to have the most updated version. I have had no luck getting 7ways to detect a satellite signal. I too have tried the solution suggest above. . . Port > tty/USB0 and Speed > (. . .) also tried (9600), as well as (4800) settings.

Cgps
gpsmon commands all show communication between the Pi and the GlobalSat BU-353-S4 USB GPS.

The only other thing that I could think might be an issue is the fact that I am not able to use CAPITAL letters for the USB, and we all know how sensitive Linux is to capitalization. The Keyboard interface doesnt allow for Capital letters in the CARPC. Is there a way to get capital letters, so that I can see if this is the issue.

Thanks.

How to install 7ways navigation program:

cd /opt/carpc
wget http://navikey.ru/files/7w/7ways-linux-arm.tar.gz
tar -xzvf 7ways-linux-arm.tar.gz

cd /opt/carpc/startup
sudo nano StartCarPC

Raplace:
Code:
# Start gpsd FOR NAVIT
sudo killall gpsd
gpsd /dev/ttyAMA0
sudo stty -F /dev/ttyAMA0 38400&
sudo gpsd /dev/ttyAMA0 -F /var/run/gpsd.sock&
# Start Navit with a low priority
cd /home/pi/navit_src/build/navit/
sudo killall navit
cd /opt/carpc/navit/navit/
./navit &

With:
Code:
# Start gpsd FOR 7WAYS
sudo killall gpsd
gpsd /dev/ttyAMA0
sudo stty -F /dev/ttyAMA0 38400&
gpsctl -f -n /dev/ttyAMA0&
sudo killall 7ways
# Start 7ways with a low priority
cd /opt/carpc/7ways/
./7ways &

sudo reboot

I think that is it. Works for me!

And now thanks to @thecableguy we have a complete tutorial on how to install 7ways!

Last step:
Code:
cd /opt/carpc/7ways/settings/
sudo nano settings.xml

Change:
<gps port="/dev/ttyAMA0" baudRate="9600" useGPS="1" bgLocationMode="on" adjustSystemTime="0"/>

Inside of settings.xml
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

You can set GPS port and baud rate in /opt/carpc/7ways/settings/settings.xml file.

Hello! Maybe someone solve problem with fullscreen in 7ways? When I run 7ways from terminal, everything is ok, but if it done by StartCarPC script it has a bar on top of the window...

So I partialy soved this.. I modified file /home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/desktop.conf

I replaced
Code:
[Session]
window_manager=openbox-lxde-pi

with:
Code:
[Session]
window_manager=

File desktop.conf:
Code:
[Session]
window_manager=

[GTK]
sNet/ThemeName=PiX
sNet/IconThemeName=gnome
sGtk/FontName=Roboto Light 12
iGtk/ToolbarStyle=3
iGtk/ButtonImages=0
iGtk/MenuImages=1
iGtk/CursorThemeSize=18
iXft/Antialias=1
iGtk/AutoMnemonics=1
iGtk/EnableMnemonics=1
sGtk/ColorScheme=selected_bg_color:#8686ababd9d9\nselected_fg_color:#ffffffffffff\nbar_bg_color:#ededececebeb\nbar_fg_color:#000000000000\n
sGtk/CursorThemeName=Adwaita
iGtk/ToolbarIconSize=3
iNet/EnableEventSounds=1
iNet/EnableInputFeedbackSounds=1
iXft/Hinting=1
sXft/HintStyle=hintfull

[Mouse]
AccFactor=20
AccThreshold=10
LeftHanded=0

[Keyboard]
Delay=500
Interval=30
Beep=1

And then I exited KODI, and the task-bar to auto hide.

Now I have fullscreen 7ways.... (I know its not the most elegant solution but, it works :twisted: )
