Hi Guys,

Andrei is currently working on a new version of the CarPC, but it can take some time. Since many of you have always asked me for a step by step guide ... here it is.

HARDWARE
Raspberry Pi 2 or 3
Official Raspberry Pi Touch Screen
min. 8GB SD card
USB GPS Mouse (Skytraq Venus 8, GM65)
Radio Module Si4703
Internet connection

WHATS IN THE PACKAGE?
- based on Raspbian Jessie (PIXEL)
- Kodi 15.2
- - Skin CarPC-xTouch by Jack
- - Radio Addon by hawkeyexp
- - Addon WiFi Manager by hawkeyexp
- Navit (from repository)
- - Navit Skin by snaga

In case you want to use another display, save current "/home/pi/touchscreen_axes_calib" and copy it after installation to the new system or check http://raspicarprojekt.de/showthread.php?tid=772 for other known configurations.

INSTALLATION
First of all write the current Raspbian Jessie (Normal or Lite) image to the SD card. Boot the Raspi, open a terminal and run the following commands (as user "pi", not as "root"):
Code:
wget https://download.christian-brauweiler.de/RaspberryPi/CarPC/current_carpc.zip
unzip current_carpc.zip
sudo ./install_carpc.sh

This could take 15-20 minutes on Raspberry Pi 3.

If you are not using a usb based gps module (/dev/ttyUSB0) you have to check the gpsd configuration in file etc/default/gpsd.
Check the line DEVICES="" and correct the value to you gps module.

Finally you need a map for NAVIT. Open http://maps6.navit-project.org , download and save your map as "map1.bin" under "/home/pi/.navit".

After a reboot the CarPi should be ready. Enjoy!

Changelog
Installer modified by hawkeyexp. Now you can use Raspbian Jessie Lite.
Updated Kodi addons to the latest versions (skin, radio, wifi manager etc.)

How can i get the Raspbian desktop back?
- Change skin to Confluence
- Quit Kodi (bottom left corner)
- Now u see Navit. Go to the options, change to window mode (in German: Einstellungen -> Darstellung -> Fenstermodus)
- Now you can minimize Navit or quit
It makes no sense to work on the Raspbian desktop. If you have to configure something, connect the pi to your LAN and open a ssh connection

USB Stick does not mount?! Password?
Code:
sudo apt-get install usbmount

Navigation doesn`t work/black screen/shell login?
Code:
sudo adduser pi tty

and add the following to the end of /etc/rc.local but before "exit 0"
Code:
sudo /bin/chmod 777 /dev/tty2

still UART GPS does not work .. tried with fresh raspbian and it does but with this image it does not .. neither does cgps -s with devices AMA0 or S0 ... ttyS0 works on fresh install of jessie on RPI3

shame ... (using ublox neo6M)

Sorry for that, but this is not an image. It`s an installer that based upon the current raspbian and installs gpsd from repository. You have to edit etc/default/gpsd to the correct device name.
And why do you use a completely different device and not what is proposed?

Hi Chris, I have a little problem. I had a clean Raspbian installation. I do your steps and works fine except Navigation Plugin (This plugin is a headache for me since 2 or 3 weeks).

I watch correctly the "background" (Navit) but the mouse doesnt works in navit. I move or click with a touchscreen in Kodi and i dont have problem but when i try to use Navit, "mouse" doesnt work :(

because of triangulation of course ... ublox promises 2m precision

plus having too many USB devices connected only puts more stress on RPI

why not have it neat and tidy with serial ?

and yes I did change that .. i tried ttyAMA0 and ttyS0 but it just does not work

@evef: I guess you use another touchscreen? Does this work correctly if you only use raspbian? I thin it doesn`t. Navit runs on the x-desktop of raspbian so if it works under plain raspbian it should work in navit after carpc install. check this please to calibrate the x desktop: http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/qu ... rry-pi-2-b

@welo78: what does "dmesg" say. maybe you can use a filter like "tty" so type "dmesg | grep tty" and identify the right device name for you gps module.
