I did the same - pressed the points that I thought were right, then I adjusted the calibration file and all worked fine. I have a 800x480 touch screen. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Do you have or are you willing to share what your working calibration file looked like?

I'm also working with a 800x480 resolution screen and would greatly appreciate your help.

Well I have same problem with 1024x768 resolution.

I calibrate touchscreen and it record points but the cursor is still off by quite alot.

I tried to change touchCalibration -> addon.py , but it does not seem to be working...

In my /boot/config.txt I have added these two lines:
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=16

I have made it work:
This is my touchscreen_axes_calib
Code:
calib_x_d=-60;calib_x_fact=0.52;calib_y_d=-60;calib_y_fact=0.41;swap_axes=0;click_confines=8;touch_mouse=1

In this file you will find seven variables but we will only use these four: calib_x_d, calib_x_fact, calib_y_d and calib_y_fact.
If your mouse pointer is correct in the left-upper corner you can set calib_x_d and calib_y_d to zero.
If your mouse pointer moves to fast in the x direction (horizontal direction) you should decrease the value of calib_x_fact. The same goes for the y direction (vertical direction), then you should decrease the value of calib_y_fact.
Now restart your Pi and check if the calibration is better. Repeat these steps untill the calibration is perfect.

@Kamion

You have to edit the values for 'calib_x_d' and 'calib_y_d' in /home/pi/ touchscreen_axes_calib.
